About
Bobby Kendall obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Music at Skidmore College and later a Master's Degree in Jazz Studies at the Purchase College Graduate Program. While at Purchase, he studied Double Bass with Todd Coolman and Doug Weiss. In the Jazz idiom, Bobby has been fortunate enough to share the stage with greats such as Jimmy Cobb, Louis Hayes, Ray Anderson, Mark Vinci, Ralph LaLama, Cyrille-Aimee, Matt Simons, Giacomo Smith, Glen Zaleski, Spike Wilner, Keith Pray, Elizabeth Woodbury Kasius, Zorkie Nelson, George Muscatello, Bob Halek, Brian Mellick, Jon Greene and many others.
Bobby also plays solo acoustic guitar in a finger-tapping style inspired by Kaki King. He uses a loop pedal to build layers of guitar and voice. With voice, guitar and pedal, he creates beats, chordal structures and melodies with harmonies. Bobby also currently freelances with several bands that all vary in style, such as Jazz, Rock, Post-Rock, Latin, African World Jazz, Indie-Folk, Americana, Gypsy Jazz, Blues, Singer/Songwriter, and more. In these bands, he plays one of three instruments, depending on what is needed. Among them are the upright bass, electric bass, and baritone guitar.
Bobby also makes film and has an incredible love for pairing it with music. To Bobby, making film always went hand-in-hand with making music, and vice-versa. While growing up, he and his friends constantly made a lot of both. Since a slew of home movies, Bobby has made several music videos and a comedy pilot. Friends and family often become crew, helping to fill camera, audio assistant and acting roles. Afterwards, he edits the project and adds music. Also, Bobby's rock band, 'Lastdayshining' recently released an album in May of 2013, and a large chunk was played and recorded by him at his home studio in Troy, NY. Lastdayshining has written and performed two live, original scores to silent films, The Adventures of Prince Achmed and Metropolis. Bobby is currently residing in Troy and looking for more sound-tracking opportunities.
